Refelction on the AOK - History

History AOK Reflection

History is one of the most important AOK’s! History is an AOK that helps us reach out to the past. It helps us connect with it and helps us understand it better, so we can have knowledge on what happened before we existed. History can be explored in many ways. Generally the common source is books. The authors who wrote these books would have gained knowledge from previous sources such as articles dating back to the incident that took place, with the people who were actually present at the event. So in this case the article is the primary source and the book is the secondary source.

Then when we talk about things that affect these sources and the way they are put out, we come to many conclusions. Firstly point of view. This is when someone hears the story and tells it to another person; however it would have some variations. That is made based on the person who is telling the story. Then word of mouth can also enhance point of view and affect the accuracy and reliability of different sources.

Then bias is showing partiality to a particular side or point and neglecting others. When it comes to history every point should be considered and analyzed equally. This helps in evening out sources and arranging them in a particular sequence. This would help be more organized and help in accuracy of the text.

We also learned that things like emotions, reason, and imagination can affect the way that history is interpreted. However all of these things that people say in their own point of view are just their own version of the truth. In class we discussed through these things and we answered questions related to this AOK.

We talked about how imagination plays a role in history and how accurate maps really are and what are the factors that bring down the accuracy of a map. This was a very interesting AOK. It helped me change my perspective on this AOK itself and help me realize that there is more to history than just the past.
